Glad I could help...

Actual phone message from today:

Seen by Dr. Smak two days ago. Told she had bronchitis and prescribed albuterol, prednisone, and flonase nasal spray.

Didn't fill prednisone, doesn't like how it makes her feel.

Didn't fill flonase, didn't think it would help.

Already had albuterol but had lost it and didn't want to get it refilled.

Not any better. Thinks she needs an antibiotic.

I wouldn't have wanted to be on her end of the phone.

Gee, I think she was in our office 2 weeks ago. Let's see "Hold that phone up close to your mouth, that's right, and open wide so I can pull out your vocal cords. There! That better?"

Oh. My. Goodness. I seriously wonder what was thinking (or maybe she wasn't thinking and that's the problem).

Sigh.

This is why we laugh at patients. If not, I'd be in a rage half the time.

Laughter is better.

Hmmm....so why bother going to see a Dr. exactly?

I try to make patients like this come to see me in the office after phonecalls like that(instead of them just trying to handle the problem by tying up my nurse for 15 minutes on the phone), so I can at least charge them a pittance for their effort to get an antibiotic out of me! Of course, sometimes that just makes me more miserable!

Along these lines there is the patient who requests an antibiotic but refuses to come into the office because they are just too sick.
